2. James Abraham VANDAL was born on 6 Jan 1781 in Natural Bridge, Rockbridge, Virginia. He died on 16 Aug 1867 in , Roane, West Virginia. He was buried about 19 Aug 1867 in , Roane, West Virginia. !From Vandal newsletter January 1990 - contributed by Jean (Vandale) Wolford.
Although some have claimed that James Abrahan Vandal was born in Greenbrier
County, family records indicate he was born January 6, 1781 on a farm near the
village of Natural Bridge, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, some 10 years
before his parents and siblings moved to Greenbrier County. His father was
Abraham Vandal, a Revolutionary War veteram. and his mother was Mary (Dillon)
Vandal. James married Sarah Boggs, daughter of John Boggs and Susan (Drennen)
Boggs, on March 18, 1806 in Greenbrier County by Rev. Josiah Osborn.
!National Archives (Record Group 15A) indicate that James Abaham Vandal was
drafted into the U.S. Army at Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, Virginia September
30, 1812, and was honorably discharged at Lewisburg March 19, 1814. He also
served seventeen days in 1815, for which he was paid.
He served as Sergeant in the Company commanded by Captain Kincaid, and
Regiment commanded by Colonel Thomas Beard.
He also received a Land Bounty for his services in the War of 1812.
Identified as B.L.Wt. #46586-207, 793, it was bought October 13, 1856, and
received under the Act of March 3, 1855.

In 1833, James and Sarah Vandal bought 478 acres of land on Lick Creek from
Sarah's father, John Boggs.

!DEATH: James Vandal died in 1867 at the Leonard Simmon's place.

!BURIAL: James Vandal was buried either in the Job Ward Cemetery or in
Palestine Cemetery Roane County, West Virginia in 1867.

James Vandal and his wife Sara were one of the early large farm owners in what
is now Roane County, West Virginia. He served in the War of 1812.

James Abraham VANDAL and Sarah BOGGS were married on 18 Mar 1806 in , Greenbrier, Virginia. Sarah BOGGS (daughter of John Attie BOGGS and Susan (Susanna) DRENNEN) was born on 26 Jul 1789 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier, Virginia. She died on 26 Jul 1858 in , Roane, West Virginia. She was buried about 29 Jul 1858 in , Roane, West Virginia. !DEATH: Sarah Vandal died in 1858 at Andrew L. Vandal's farm.
