7. Edward Dillon
VANDAL was born about 1797 in Vandal's Mnt., Greenbrier, Virginia.

Edward Dillon Vandal, the youngest son of Abraham Vandal and Mary Dillon, was
born in 1797 on Vandal's Mountain in Greenbrier County, Va. Moving with his
family from Fayette County, Va to Rush County, In, about 1842, his further
movements have not been accurately reported, but it is know that in 1845 he
deeded property in Clarke County, Ia to his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, wife
of Ferrando Cortes Vandal, and at that time he was a resident of Shelby
County, In.

"In consideration of love and affection, and five dollars and the maintenance
of granton, Abraham Vandal and his wife, Mary, during their lifetime, a tract
of land on which granton resides, which was purchased of Lewis Stuart by
Edward and Abraham jointly, also following slaves, Jane and her five children,
to wit: Lucy, Jacob, Jesse, Caly and Betty, and granton's interest in a negro
man-slave named Mickey, who was purchased jointly by Abraham and Edward D.
Vandal, and the other property, to wit: three head of horses, all interest in
cattle, sheep and hogs, and household and kitchen furniture, and all debts and
demands due Abraham Vandal, and all interest in farming utensils on the farm
on which he now resides."

Edward Dillon Vandal received two land grants on March 13, 1821 and Nov. 13,
1821. In 1821 Edward Dillon staked a claim in Posey Township in Rush County,
Indiana and in 1841 or 1842 he was acknowledging deeds of land in West Virginia
- living in Rush County Indiana.

In 1842, Edward Dillon VANDAL, favorite son of Abraham Vandal, sold the properties
his father and mother had given to him in return for his promise to take care
of them for the remainder of their lives, and moved, with his family and a family
of slaves that he owned, to Rush County, Indiana.
Edward Dillon Vandal was twice Sheriff of Fayette County. He gave a $30,000
bond (D.B."C" p.60) which stated he had been appointed sheriff of Fayette
County by the Governor of Virginia, December 10, 1839, to serve until the first
quarterly term of the Court of said County for the year 1841, He also gave another
$30,000 bond as sheriff (D.B."C" p. 143) which stated he had been appointed
by the Governor as Sheriff, December 3, 1840, to serve until the expiration of
his commission.

The entry states that Edward made a substantial advance to each of his
children before his death, except Mariah, who is now given the same amount
March 26, 1870.
