41. Abraham VANDAL Jr. was born on 14 May 1814 in Green Sulp. Spg, Greenbrier, Virginia. He died about 1879 in Ansted, , West Virginia. He was buried about 1879 in Ansted, West Virginia. !From Vandal Newsletter, July, 1992
Abraham Vandal, Jr. was born at Green Sulphur Springs, in Greenbrier County,
Virginia, and was the second of the seven children born to Joel Worth Vandal
and his wife, Charity A. Davis.
He was married first, in March, 1835, in Fayette County, Virginia, to Cynthia
Skaggs, daughter of James Skaggs and Elizabeth Miller. The couple had three
children, Mary Ann Vandal (1839-1908), who married William Johnson Wood in
1859, Thomas Benjamin Vandal, who married Mary Surbaugh Howell in 1888, and
Nathan Vandal (1842-1856), who was accidently killed by a hand-spike at age 17.
Abraham Vandal, Jr. married again, in April, 1850, to Leah Likens McCoy,
daughter of James Likens, and wildow of Milton McCoy. To this marriage were
born six children. The first, Louisa Vandal, born in 1852, married Bud
Crumblly. Next, Laura Vandal, born in 1853, married George Green in 1873.
Joel Vandal, born in 1854, died at age 10 of brain fever.
Until recently, we did not know the date of Abraham Vandal, Jr's death.
Through the kindness of W.T. Lawrence, of Fayetteville, a member of the
Fayette-Raleigh County Genealogical Society, we have received a copy of the
Inquest Report of Fayette County, dated 23 June 1879, which stated that
Abraham Vandal had departed this life from natural causes. It was the opinion
of the Jury members that he had died of old age, feebleness of body and
over-fatigue.
It has been reported from other sources that one of Abraham's sons, Thomas
Benjamin Vandal, that his father had been found by the roadside, poisoned.
Most of the children of Abraham and Cynthia were buried in unmarked graves in
the Vandal-Westlake Cemetery "on the hill" at Anstead, West Virginia.

Abraham VANDAL Jr. and Cynthia SKAGGS were married on 29 Mar 1835 in , Fayette, Virginia. Cynthia SKAGGS (daughter of James SKAGGS and Elizabeth MILLER) was born on 6 Jun 1816 in , Fayette, Virginia. She died on 12 Apr 1849 in Ansted, , West Virginia. She was buried in Ansted, West Virginia. !BURIAL: Terry Cem., Anstead, West Virginia

One of the sons of Joel Worth Vandal, Abraham Vandal Jr., was born in 1814 and married as his first wife, Cynthia Skaggs of New Haven, Virginia in 1935.
They were happily married for 15 years when Cynthia passed away, possibly during child birth, leaving Abraham to raise four children, Mary Ann, Nathan, W.H., and Thomas. Abraham VANDAL Jr. and Cynthia SKAGGS had the following children:

210	ii.	Nathan VANDAL was born about 1842. He died about 1860. !From the Vandal Newsletter, July, 1992. Nathan Vandal (1842-1859), was accidently killed by a hand-spike at age 17. !From the Vandal Newsletter, October, 1987. When Nathan was quite young, his mother, Cynthia, died, and his father, in 1850, married a widown, Leah Likens McCoy. There are indications that Nathan and his brother Thomas were "put out" to live with relatived in nearby Counties. Nathan was listed in the 1850 Census of Nicholas County as living with the family of Samuel and Jane Malcolm. The 1860 Census of Monroe County listed Nathan as living in the residence of Matthew Campbell. He died in 1859.

Abraham VANDAL Jr. and Leah LIKENS were married on 1 Apr 1850 in , Fayette, Virginia. Leah LIKENS (daughter of James LIKENS) was born about 1823 in , Pendleton, Virginia. Abraham VANDAL Jr. and Leah LIKENS had the following children:
