IF YOU ARE A DESCENDANT OF ABRAHAM VANDAL, YOU ARE
ELIGIBLE
TO JOIN EITHER THE D.A.R., S.A.R. OR THE C.A.R.
Because our ancestor, Abraham Vandal, served during the Revolutionary War, hundreds of his female descendants are eligible to join the Daughters of the American Revolution. Likewise, his male descendants are eligible to join the Sons of the American Revolution and young descendants under 18 years of age can join the Children of the American Revolution. Back in 1992, our Vandal historian Wayne Masterson (deceased) reviewed the family records of the first four generations of that Patriot's descendants and found 4 women eligible in the 1st generation, 32 in the 2nd generation, 116, in the 3rd generation and 176 in the 4th generation. So this totals 328 women that we know of, that were endowed with this eligibility through that family connection. Similar facts could be found on the men.
There must be hundreds more in recent generations that could become members if they would apply. Eligibility can be easily established now by using the descendancy pages on the internet shown on the home page of this site. Find your name using the surname index, then work backwards thru the families until you end up with Abraham. On his page are all the required references you will need to document his activity during the Revolution. Then visit the web site for the D.A.R.,the C.A.R. or the S.A.R. and locate a chapter near you that you can contact to obtain the necessary forms and sponsorship.
On February 22, 1985, an organization similar to the D.A.R. was formed for the children of American Revolution known as the C.A.R. It is the hope that the young people will be trained in true patriotism and love of country, in order that they shall be better fitted for American citizenship. As they grow older, they would then be eligible to be members of the D.A.R. or S.A.R.
