The obituary below appeared in the newspaper in dayton, Ohio recently but I am unable to locate any of the names in our genealogy file.  I am pretty certain she is one of our kin since I have already inquired with our French/Canadian Vandals and they say she is not one of their family.  If anyone out there can identify this woman or any of the names in this article, I would appreciate it very much if you would contact me and tell me where the family fits in.  Chuck Hield - Family Historian, 7203 Forestwind Ct., Arlington, TX 76001-4843.  Email -

Query Received from Elizabeth Vandale Greathouse

Patti Lalack Hutterli sent in an e-mail inquiry concerning Mary Elizabeth Vandale Greathouse, daughter of Jonathan Boggs Vandal whom she believes she is related to.  She has a picture circa 1900 of two Vandale sisters.  Jemima Vandale was born December 7, 1837 in Wirt, VA - she married Hezekiah W. Miller on April 21, 1866.  The other sister is Mary Elizabeth Vandale.
Mary Elizabeth was born about 1839 in Wirt, Virginia and died ca. 1905.  Our files show she first married William Kirby and had a child Art Kirby.  Her second marriage was to Herbert Greathouse and no children are shown as a result of this union.  Patti feels sure that she is related to the Greathouse side of this marriage but is unable to trace the ancestors of Herbert.  If any one has information on Herbert Greathouse, husband of Mary Elizabeth Vandale, please contact Patti Lalack Hutterli, 10480 SW Eastridge S., Portland, OR 97225 or e-mail at: <>.

I am attempting to contact a Thomas K. Vandell, who served as a 4-H youth agent in Lincoln-Adams Counties of Washington State in the mid to late 70's. He was associated through W.S.U. Tom was my 4-H agent and made a lasting impression on my life and I would just like to catch up on things with him.
I've had someone search for me using the internet. I had one address in West Virginia in which there was no such address. A later search found a Tom & Wanda in West Virginia but that was answered by another Tom Vandall who gave me your address.

This is what I do know....

1. Tom lived in Davenport, Washington in mid-late 70's.
2. He was married to Debbie and had two children - Travis & Lindsey.
3. I believe Debbie's maiden name was Johnson and her parents were residing          in the Grand Coulee Dam, Washington area.
4. Tom got a job with Washington State Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service (ASCS) & they moved to Aberdeen, Washington in late 70's - early 80's.
5. I've heard Tom & Debbie may have been divorced.

That's all I know.... I simply want to find Tom and catch up. A recent series of events in my life find me with the need to touch base. He was an inspiration in my life & gave me confidence to test my dreams. I'd like to say thanks. If you can help me in any way I would be so very grateful!
