Vandal Family Reunion Information
The Vandal Reunion for 2017
The Vandal Reunion for 2017 will be held on June 23 - 25. Our Reunion coordinator is Carolyn Witt
and below are the plans to date.
The 2017 Reunion is coming together. Here are the details.
The reunion will be June 23 and 24 with check in on the 22nd at the Quality Inn on the New River Gorge in Fayetteville, West Virginia (phone 844-291-2494).
The family meeting will be Saturday at 1:30 in the conference room at the Inn. There will be a picnic at 6 PM in the picnic area outside.
The picnic menu is hamburgers/hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, fresh fruit or cookies/brownies, condiments, chili and slaw. Children up to 9 years are free and 10 to 13 are $10.
I am hoping to have a social time Friday evening probably around 7 PM. Saturday morning will be time to visit the monument in Fayetteville that is dedicated to Abraham Vandal and time to visit the cemetery in Ansted where Abraham and Mary are buried. The S A R placed a bronze marker at Abraham's grave in 2013 and I thought it might be a point of interest. Depending on the number of people who show an interest we can either carpool or rent a bus.
There will be a button to identify participants. You will get those when you check in. Please wear them. It just lets others know that you are connected.
We have reserved the conference room and Chuck Hield will be available to update family history.
The Vandal Reunion for 2015
The Vandal Reunion for 2015 will be held on June 19 - 21 in the Golden Sands Hotel,
1211 South Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach, North Carolina. 28428. A block of beach front rooms have been reserved under the name "Vandal Reunion". The price for the room is $239 plus tax. Reservations can be made by calling (910) 458-8334.
Lets keep the Vandal clan tradition alive by joining together for this semiannual get together of friends, cousins and family so we can get all caught up on each others activities.
Thanks to Chris and Dava Vandall for making all the arrangements.
The Vandal Reunion for 2013
Our Reunion for 2013 was held on June 21, 22 and 23 at Hawks Nest State Park near Ansted, West Virginia. The Hawks Nest Lodge is conveniently located on the Midland Trail Scenis Highway (Route 60), one hour east of Charleston and only 8 miles west of Route 19. The New River Gorge is on Route 19.
During the reunion the Daniel Boone Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution conducted a special grave marking ceremony that was held at the Westlake cemetery in Ansted in honor of our famous ancestor, Abraham Vandal, who fought in the Revolution and to whom we are all indebted. 6 chapters of the SAR from all over the state participated in the event all in period uniforms. Many cousins from the reunion were in attendance as well as citizens from the town of Amsted.
The 2011 Vandal Reunion was held in Gatlinburg, Tenneessee on June 24 - 26.
Our Vandal Reunion for 2011 turned out to be a wonderful together of our cousins with their families. It was a little smaller gathering then usual since there are fewer Vandalsin Tennessee and surrounding area but it was not lacking for the usual commoradarie and good times.

The 2007 Vandal Reunion
From the Newsletter of July, 2007
Another fantastic time was had by all in attendance at our 2007 Vandal National Reunion in Brown County Indiana....
The Abe Martin Lodge and the surrounding area reminds me a great deal of being back home again in my birth state of West Virginia, which by the way is where the 2009 Vandal National Reunion will be. The approximately 60 cousins at our 2007 reunion business meeting voted to return to Pipestem State Park in beautiful West Virginia, where we held a very enjoyable reunion eight years ago.
Like branches on a tree
I want to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all in attendance this year for helping to make this such a good and memorable gathering. All the helpers did an excellent job in laying out the weekend agenda. I was very pleased to see everyone there and to those that couldn't make it this year I'm sorry you missed out on the good time and the memories and history made by the gathering of all the cousins. There is always next time if you are fortunate enough to stay healthy. Take time to smell the roses means a whole lot to those that have fought personal life battles. To my way of thinking at this stage of my life, LIFE is not about the toys and things you collect but about Family, Friends and Faith!
Thanks to my immediate branch of the family tree for making the effort and attending each and every National Reunion.
Respectfully submitted by your again elected president, R. Dean VanDall.
